VIERNES 6 DE ENERO DE 2012
Message of the 65th Ordinary General Assembly of the
Congregation of Jesus and Mary
To the incorporated, candidates in probation,
associates and friends of the Eudist Family
Dear brothers and sisters,
We,
members of the 65th General Assembly greet you fraternally and we are grateful for the prayer and the
spiritual support you constantly gave
us during our reunion in Fusagasuga in
Colombia.
During this Assembly, after having celebrated the memory of Father
Michel Gerard, call to the eternal presence of God, last March 2011 elected a
new General Council of the Congregation. It is composed the following way:
Superior
General: Father Camilo Bernal
Vicar General: Father Luc Crepy
General Councilors not living in Rome : Father
Glles Ouellet y Carlos Álvarez
They all accepted to serve in the position they were asked to fulfill
for the next five years.
In the name of the whole Congregation we thank the Eudist Fathers Jean
Camus, Ramon Rivas, John Howard, Pierre Yves Pecqueux and Raymond Vaillancout, members of the past
General Council for their availability and we extend our gratefulness to the
Provincial Superiors and our confreres of the Provinces of Colombia and of the
Minuto de Dios for all they did for our Assembly to take place and to be a
success.
Illuminated by the Holy Spirit which impulses our fascination for Jesus,
sparks in us the fire of love for Christ
and Mary, and creates in us the fidelity to the charisms we inherited from
Saint John Eudes we want to send to all of you a message of hope, of joy and
of enthusiasm. We invite every
one of you to look for new paths in your work of evangelization, formation of
good laborers of the Gospel and in your work of compassion. This is the continuous challenge the Church
and the world are setting for us.
We are called to labor this mission in unity and solidarity as members
of a large spiritual family. We want to stand for who we are: an International
missionary Congregation, that in order to respond to its vocation shoulders and
takes on the responsibilities of Provincial or interprovincial projects with
generosity and availability.
To serve as guideline and action plan we gave the General Council
specifications, for the team to enliven our pastoral and community commitments
during the next five years. We are fully
aware that these tasks will not be possible without the personal and economical
support of each and every one of us, according to our Legislation.
We are a Little Congregation, but we look at the future with hope taking
into account the commitments we all have acquired and the number of candidates
who want to give themselves to our family.
Let us ask God to send on
this Little Congregation the Love of His Spirit and to give to us all abundant
blessings during this year we are beginning together.

The General Assembly: day 7
Yesterday
morning we worked in groups to update our reflections around the themes we
touched during the last session. We were asked to have a deep understanding of
our economical challenges. The following questions had to be treated: sharing
our income, how do we bring our personal ministry income to the local
community, the way provinces share in the responsibility in the administration
and the functioning of the General Administration, fund raising to support
Congregation programs and our House in Rome.
Then before noon we transferred to La Casa
Buenos Aires belonging to the Vincentians in Chinauta. There will take place
our working sessions This house offers a countryside environment, and food, accommodation
and the kindness of the staff help us to work, pray and rest in a comfortable
setting.
In the afternoon, we
all gather around a one table, we were served a delicious lunch enhanced by
Colombian folkloric music. Later we had
a plenary session when the Assembly listened to the reports of each group about
the morning work. Then together we kept
sharing observations and suggestions about this huge challenge of sharing and
finding ways to raise our resources.
To sum up, the
Assembly took a great care dealing with this issue and asked that each member
of the Congregation feels himself concerned by the group resources and that
together we find ways and means to be more charitable and generous, to live a
life according to the Gospel and following John Eudes’example : “the rule of
the rule in the Congregation is Charity”.
Finally we
studied a document “proposition of list of tasks to be achieved by the next
General Concil (2012-2017). This
document is the fruit of the team of moderators who put together all the
results of the Assembly’s discussions. From this document groups were asked to
write a bilingual text (French and Spanish) to propose particular motions and
recommendations to be voted by the Assembly.

Today. this morning, after prayer, we listened to the report of the Province of Venezuela. Through a Power Point presentation we were made aware of the national, ecclesial and provincial environment, in which we lead our activities and ministries of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary.
The themes retained for further information and discussion are : personal of the Province, the distribution of
the same personal, works, Associates and
pre-associates, Provincial animation, communication tools within the
Province of Venezuela, the good news, painful events and perspectives for the
future.
The Assembly’s reaction to
this report highlighted especially the real missionary zeal and achievement of
this Province. This missionary experience is what identifies Venezuela among
the other Provinces. What a richness and a creativity when we look at the way
lay men and women and young people particularly are connected to us in the evangelization field!

On the fourth day of the Assembly
we began working in groups on the topic of the General Government of the CJM.
Each group had to report back to the plenary meeting. Then in the afternoon we listened to the
reports from the Provinces of Colombia and of the Minuto de Dios.
The report of the Province of
Colombia was presented in the perspective of a dynamic hope. It is a growing Province with much hope for
the future. To sum up, the major points of the report can be listed as the
following: communication, spiritual animation, associates, collaboration with
the associates, parish life, administration, formation to priesthood, the
internationalization; the new calls from the Church to the CJM through the
bishops.
The Province of the Minuto de

a process of become a new project. Ther will be no local Eudist community in

in view of the ajustments and the work of the communication team.
As far the
Province of Africa is concerned we acknowledged the difficulties, but there is
a real motivation to working on. We underlined the “school of faith” project,
moving to Ivory Coast from Freiburg in Switzerland, to from lay leaders in
Christian communities without priests.
Questions and observations took place, we particularly mentioned

The General Assembly: Sharing as Brothers during the General Assembly
The General Assembly is also a time of encounters with brothers for the CJM. We observe an atmosphere of real camaraderie and fraternity among the members; This is one of the characteristics of this meeting. More, this tropical and countryside environment at the De la Salle House in Fusagasuga helps to reflect, to work and to share and also it constitutes and excellent environment for prayer and rest.
Taking the opportunity of the New Year celebrations, the community met to celebrate and enjoy moments of fun. Lunch today was enhanced by the presence of a musical group from the “Costa”, send by the UNIMINUTO; father Alberto Linero and Fr Alvaro Duarte introduced us to the Folklore of this Colombian region. Members of the Assembly found themselves singing with the musicians so enthusiastic they became. We can think of the Biblical Verse :” How good it is to live with brothers together” (psalm 133,1)

VIERNES 30 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2011
The General Assembly, day 2
Today, we begin by morning pray (Lauds) together in the Chapel, then Father Carlos Álvarez went developing his reflection for the retread. We were called to let ourselves be questioned by the Word of the Lord Jesus and the convictions of Saint Jean Eudes. Father Carlos highlighted the reality of “the school of holiness” which is not a mere simple label but really a living proposition valid and relevant for today’s cultures. Therefore the CJM well be able to propose a real style of Christian life according to the Gospel, through witnessing love, brotherhood and generosity from each Eudist.
Father Carlos insisted on the fascination for Jesus Christ, as a fundamental experience each Eudist is impregnated with. His life, his ministry, his community life, his mission within the Church and society mirrors his fascination of Christ.
Finally, we concluded the retreat by celebration of the Eucharist presided by Father John Howard ho was celebrated the anniversary of his ordination together with Father Gilles Ouellet and Father Bernard Cantin.
In the afternoon, the 2th plenary session of the Assembly took place. We elected the President of the moderators. Then both the Superior General and the General Bursar presented their reports to the Assembly and those were submitted to the Assembly’s discussion.
We ended our day with dinner, the evening prayers (Vespers). The moderators met for their regular meeting.
The pictures of the day are posted on the Spanish page.

JUEVES 29 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2011
The General Assembly, day 1
We began the sessions of the 65th ordinary General Assembly of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary in an atmosphere or brotherhood, profound spirituality, simple relationships, sharing and camaraderie all along the first sessions.
On
December 28, 2011 the delegates arrived at the town of Fusagasugá in Colombia
after a huge traffic on our way from Bogota.
The first evening was an evening of welcoming when a group of dances
from the University of The Minuto de Dios enhanced our dinner. After this
celebration we had our first meeting to organize the details of our local
organization, logistics and other aspects and then we went to rest.
December
29th was dedicated to two activities. First we elected the moderators of the
Assembly in charge of leading the activities of the whole Assembly and the
Assembly made the decision to accept Associates as tellers. Then we approved the schedule and the by-laws
of the Assembly and we reserved the following day for the President of the moderators
to be elected.
Subsequently,
during the afternoon session father Carlos Álvarez Gutierrez begin to open
space for inner and reflection for the Assembly to be prepared to elect the team
of the General Government. The meditation theme was focused on our reality as
brothers called to be “together for the Mission”. This day of recollection will
end December 30th at noon.
